Raphael Varane and summer signing Lisandro Martinez show the chemistry at Manchester United’s defence. That made Harry Maguire lose his starting place after disastrous defeats in the opening match of the season against Brighton and Brentford.
Maguire was sidelined with a hamstring problem in September and early October but has made just five appearances in all competitions this season. The former Leicester City star missed out on the Carabao Cup win over Burnley but he will soon be back playing for the Reds.

Maguire lost his place at Man Utd this season.
Varane and Martinez have not been able to return to Old Trafford after the 2022 World Cup final, which opens up the opportunity to start from the beginning for Maguire. And after impressing in Qatar, former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness believes the 29-year-old will make it into Man Utd’s first team in 2023:
“I have to admit I’m pleased with Maguire. He’s much better than some people think. Maguire has had a very good World Cup and the challenge for him now is to knock out Raphael Varane or Lisandro Martinez. . I think he’s more than capable of doing that.”
