Lewandowski will miss 3 matches against Atletico Madrid, Getafe and Girona.
In the above match, the Polish striker was sent off after only 30 minutes of play. On the way into the tunnel, Lewandowski got angry and pointed his finger at referee Jesus Gil Manzano.
Initially, the La Liga organizers fined the former Bayern Munich star a one-match suspension. But in terms of Lewandowski’s lack of standard attitude to the referee, the Polish striker’s penalty increased to 3 matches.
But this disciplinary sentence was postponed when Barca submitted an appeal to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). On December 31, 2022, the 34-year-old striker was still able to play in the match against Espanyol. Espanyol then filed a complaint with the RFEF regarding Lewandowski’s case. As a result, the Polish striker remained suspended for 3 matches, thereby missing the matches against Atletico Madrid, Getafe and Girona.
Mundo Deportivo revealed Barca can appeal Lewandowski’s case to further delay the penalty from the La Liga organizers. However, all paperwork must be completed by January 5 (local time) before Spain enters the holiday season.
Lewandowski has scored 13 La Liga goals in 15 appearances since joining Barcelona last summer. However, since the end of October 2022, the Polish striker has not had a goal in this arena.
Barca currently leads the La Liga table with 38 points after 15 matches, equal to Real Madrid but with a difference in difference (28 compared to 21).
