After 3 years away from top football to serve FIFA as a global football developer, Arsene Wenger is likely to return to coaching in the near future.

The Swiss Football Federation considers Wenger a leading candidate for the position of head coach.
Specifically, Switzerland’s Blick newspaper today reported that Wenger is one of the leading candidates to sit in the hot seat of the country’s national team after coach Vladimir Petkovic left office to coach Bordeaux club.
This newspaper also reported that this is just a short-term plan of the Swiss Football Federation. They need a great coach to take Switzerland through the qualifiers to reach Qatar in 2022.
Currently, Switzerland is in the same group of European champions Italy, Northern Ireland, Bulgaria and Lithuania. They got 6 points after 2 matches and temporarily ranked second, behind Italy (3 matches, 9 points). Most likely, the competition for the top is just a two-horse race between Switzerland and Italy.
The quality of the Swiss squad at the moment is not bad. They are served by experienced people like Granit Xhaka, Ricardo RodrÃguez, Steven Zuber combined with talented young players like Breel Embolo, Ruben Vargas. On the other hand, Xhaka was Professor Wenger’s favorite student when he was still at Arsenal. Therefore, this is an ideal destination for the French strategist in the near future.

Switzerland reached the quarter-finals at the last Euro.
In addition, at the age of 71, coaching a national team will be more suitable for Wenger’s health than coaching a club. In the next year, Switzerland will only play about 10 to 20 official matches. Therefore, the intensity of Mr. Wenger’s work is not really too much compared to the days when he was coaching Arsenal.
In fact, people will expect more from Wenger when he holds a national team. It will no longer be a buy-and-sell-buy mentality like before, but a campaign of about 7 matches (at the World Cup). To have a high rank, you must have a thorough investment in personnel as well as a training plan. And that is also the time for Mr. Wenger’s expertise to speak.
In the past, he was famous for building Arsenal a fast-paced and equally effective football. Now, will it still be recreated in the form of a sassy Switzerland after 3 years he left top football?
