In the summer of 2023, Bayer Leverkusen announced the signing of Swiss international, Granit Xhaka. Xhaka has held a leadership role at Arsenal since 2016. In the last Premier League season, Xhaka played a key role in the central midfield position. Xhaka signed a contract until June 2028.
For Xhaka, joining Leverkusen means he returns to the Bundesliga. In the past, Xhaka played for Borussia Monchengladbach from 2012 to 2016.

Xhaka was happy to leave Arsenal to return to the Bundesliga to play football.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal received a fee of 25 million euros for Xhaka, a significant increase from the original 15 million euros.
Xhaka is flourishing with Leverkusen as he helps this club reach the top of the Bundesliga. Most recently, he shared: “I am a very emotional person, like to cry and am not ashamed of it.
Of course, at times I also cried with joy. For example, when I left Arsenal to move to Leverkusen. I also cried with joy because I really wanted to go back. I think that’s also part of who I am.”
