The former Bayern coach has been out of work since being fired by the German giants last season. Nagelsmann still has a contract and receives salary from the Gray Tigers. Now the 36-year-old former player, considered one of the best young coaches in Europe, can prepare for an impressive return to the national team.
Hansi Flick was fired as coach of the German team in early September after an embarrassing 1-4 loss to Japan. According to BILD news agency, the German coach is prepared to give up about 17 million pounds in salary that he will earn at Bayern until 2026. to sit in the hot seat on the German national team.
Nagelsmann will likely lead Germany.
Reports suggest he will earn around £3.5m while working for the team until next summer. Once that period ends, Nagelsmann’s future will again be under review.
The upcoming European Championship will be held in Germany in summer 2024, the first time a major tournament has been held there since the 2006 World Cup.
However, Germany was in poor form before the tournament, and might not have even qualified for EURO if it were not the host.
