The media confirmed that Newcastle United is targeting Ruben Neves as the top target to strengthen the midfield, after Sandro Tonali officially received a ban. Notably, Neves was recently suddenly said to be in Arsenal’s sights.
Discussing the above information, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that coach Mikel Arteta was interested in Neves in the past, but currently there are no negotiations. The Italian journalist said:

Neves is still considered a quality midfielder.
“Elsewhere like Arsenal, we see some unexpected links with the move to loan Ruben Neves from Al Hilal.”
“Neves is mainly linked with Newcastle, who rate the player highly, but in the past there has also been interest from Mikel Arteta – he has always liked Neves, But right now there aren’t any negotiations.”
In fact, it would not be too surprising if Arsenal strengthens the midfield with a quality midfielder in the winter transfer window, in the context that Thomas Partey continues to be tormented by injury. At the same time, Partey has recently been strongly linked with Juventus.
