Eddie Howe admitted that Newcastle United considered signing Felix Nmecha last summer when asked about the subject after Wednesday night’s Champions League defeat.
The Borussia Dortmund goalscorer was on the club’s radar this summer when the former Manchester City youth prospect moved to the Black and Yellows from Wolfsburg.
When the Newcastle head coach spoke to the media at St. James’ Park last night, a reporter mentioned the interest and asked how close Nmecha was to joining Newcastle.
Howe bitterly admitted that Newcastle followed Nmecha closely last summer: “He’s a player we’ve been watching and really like, but yeah, obviously he’s at Dortmund now.”

Nmecha almost became Chi Choe’s man.
Nmecha remained in the Bundesliga and signed for Borussia Dortmund for around £26 million, although he was not warmly welcomed by his new team’s supporters.
When the Magpies’ interest was first reported, several media outlets revealed that Nmecha had posted homophobic and transphobic content on its social media. That caused Magpies fans to protest the signing of Nmecha.
