Alejandro Grimaldo has become one of the stars of Bayer Leverkusen’s squad since joining the club on a free transfer last summer. The former Barcelona player was an instant success under Xabi Alonso. He is a mainstay in the left-back position and has scored or assisted 14 times in 17 matches this season.

Following his recent success at Leverkusen, Grimaldo spoke about his future in a recent interview. He especially praised Real Madrid.

Grimaldo praises Real Madrid

“Real Madrid is one of the best teams in the world, if not the best. It is the team that every player wants to join,” Grimaldo told Diario SPORT.

The left-back was a member of Barcelona’s youth system for eight years, before joining Benfica in 2016 in search of more playing time. During his time in Portugal, he established himself as an excellent left-back and was even linked with a return to Camp Nou several times.

However, despite confessing his love for Real Madrid, Alejandro Grimaldo is extremely happy at Bayer Leverkusen and has no intention of changing direction.

“Currently I am at Bayer Leverkusen. I’ve been here for three months and things are going very well. We have to continue working and in the future we will see what happens,” Grimaldo assured.

“The truth is I’m very happy. Now I want to enjoy every moment here.” he added.

Grimaldo’s current contract at Leverkusen expires in 2027. However, it should be noted that Xabi Alonso is one of the favorites to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid next summer.
