Antoine Griezmann enjoyed a happy night with Atletico Madrid as they won 3-1 against Villarreal. The French international has contributed to the success of Diego Simeone’s team since the beginning of the 2023/24 season with 12 goals scored across La Liga and Champions League arenas.
His impressive streak continued in the victory over Villarreal. Griezmann assisted Axel Witsel to equalize, before appearing late on the scoreboard to give the home team a 2-1 lead.
Griezmann is about to enter the legendary temple.
This goal further enhanced his personal best for the season, but it also marked a milestone in Atletico’s record books. The club confirmed Griezmann scored 169 goals for Los Rojiblancos, across two appearances for Simeone’s team.
The French striker is now equal with Adrian Escudero in the number of goals scored in all competitions for Atletico. and only behind Luis Aragones with 173 goals.
Griezmann will likely break this record before the end of 2023. In the immediate future, he will have a fateful match with his former team Barcelona on December 3.
