Two days ago, Bayer Leverkusen announced: “We have signed the Swiss international, Granit Xhaka. The midfielder has moved from the top English club, Arsenal.
Xhaka has been a leader there since 2016. In the last Premier League season, Xhaka played a key role in central midfield. Xhaka put pen to paper and signed a contract with a term until June 2028.”
For Xhaka, joining Leverkusen means his return to the Bundesliga. In the past, Xhaka played for Borussia Monchengladbach between 2012 and 2016.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal will receive a fee of 25 million euros for Xhaka, a significant increase from the original 15 million euros.
However, not everyone is happy with Xhaka’s choice to leave Emirates for Leverkusen. Blick journalist Christian Finkbeiner criticized the midfielder.
He thinks the arrival of Declan Rice could present a new challenge for Xhaka to conquer, especially since there is still a year left on his contract. Instead, Finkbeiner suggested that Xhaka chose to “give up and leave with a lot of applause”.
According to Finkbeiner, Xhaka should have chosen to stay and join Arsenal to conquer new milestones next season.
