Ochoa turns on “World Cup mode” again
Salernitana just went through a brave match to win 1 point against the champions of the 2020/21 season thanks to the European-praised performance of goalkeeper Ochoa with a total of 10 spectacular saves.
In particular, the most significant was the situation in the 64th minute that prevented Inter from doubling the gap – considered an ecstatic save, the turning point that made the home team’s draw.
From the corner, Romelu Lukaku headed the crossbar from close range, and Ochoa in an attempt to make a save went inside the goal. Stefan de Vrij hit his head very hard when the ball bounced off and it seemed like Inter would have a second goal to “close the box” of the match.
However, the “spider-man” from Mexico has a different opinion. From deep in the net, Ochoa still managed to bounce back to put his hand on the ball just above the goal line in an extraordinary way.
Immediately, the goalkeeper with 5 appearances in the World Cup received countless compliments on social networks after this divine save:
“Ochoa made 10 saves against Inter and helped Salernitana earn a draw. He’s still brilliant at 38 years old in one of Europe’s top five tournaments, while no one at that age has challenged him… Hope to see him at the 2026 World Cup.
“I guess he turned on the World Cup mode in this match.”
“There is no better winter signing in the world than Ochoa to Salernitana.”
Even the opponent’s coach Simone Inzaghi had to have words for Ochoa: “I will have to watch this game again, but we did well and played very well. Lukaku headed the crossbar, De Vrij hit the ball and Ochoa had unbelievable reflexes.
Will Salernitana stay relegated soon?
Ochoa’s performance overshadowed the beautiful equalizer of another Salernitana veteran, Antonio Candreva, who is 36 years old but still plays an important role in the team. His somewhat deep cross in the 90th minute accidentally became too difficult for goalkeeper Andre Onana to bring back a very valuable point for Salernitana in the relegation race.
Last season, Salernitana only earned a ticket to stay in Serie A in the final round with 31 points – a record low score for a relegation team. But now they are only 2 points behind this number when the tournament still has 9 rounds left, and in fact they have also created a relatively safe distance from the group holding the red light: 10 points.
With an excellent Ochoa in the wooden frame, occasionally turning on the “World Cup” mode, Salernitana is fully confident that he will cross the finish line safely this season. However, they should also be wary of Inter and Milan, two teams who are looking to “steal” Ochoa in the summer of 2023.
Ochoa equals Radu .’s record
With a total of 10 denials from Inter, Ochoa equals Ionut Radu’s record for most saves in a Serie A game this season made in a Cremonese shirt against Roma in August 2022. Previously, in his debut Salernitana, Ochoa also impressed with 9 saves against another Milan team, AC Milan.
