Rafael Marquez was appointed coach of Barca’s youth team last season. Marquez and his students ended the season in 4th place after losing in the play-off semi-finals to Real Madrid Castilla, with a total score of 3-2.
Marquez has returned to Barca as youth team coach.
Speaking to ESPN in Mexico, former Barca player Gerard Pique said Rafael Marquez may be the coach of Barca’s first team in the near future.
“Rafa is ready for many things [chẳng hạn như việc huấn luyện Barcelona] thanks to his attitude, knowledge of the game and experience,” Pique assessed.
“He is currently in the process of learning as a coach and I am sure that in the future we will see him on the coaching bench in La Liga. We will see if it is with Barca or another team, but he’s preparing excellently.”
Marquez previously held the role of Sports Director of Atlas (in Mexico) and then youth coach at Real Alcala, a place near Madrid before returning to the Blaugrana.
