More than six months ago, young talent Gavi signed a new contract with the Catalan side until 2026. However, Barca’s efforts to register him as a first-team player have so far failed success due to their financial difficulties.
According to Ramon Fuentes, Spanish TV presenter of Telemadrid, Gavi is no longer a player of Barca’s first team. The only way for Gavi to be registered is for Barca to cut the salary bill.
Mundo Deportivo has also reported that Gavi’s first-team contract will not be signed and he will return to his youth team contract due to a court decision. Barca successfully registered Gavi on January 31. However, La Liga later filed an appeal, arguing that Barca failed to register on time.
Earlier this month, the court ruled in La Liga’s favor, but since no specific decision had been made at the time, Gavi was allowed to continue as a Barca first-team player. On Wednesday last week, Barcelona decided to appeal the ruling and have now been informed that those efforts have not been successful.
It is believed that if Gavi is not registered in Barca’s first team by July 1, his contract will be void. Barcelona will have to reduce the salary fund, otherwise La Liga will not allow them to register Gavi.
After the latest developments, Gavi was immediately said to be leaving Barcelona. Premier League clubs such as Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea are all closely monitoring Gavi’s situation.
Barcelona will have another 20 days to appeal the latest ruling in the Provincial Court.
