Leandro Trossard’s 69th-minute goal was decisive as Arteta’s side claimed their first win at Goodison Park since 2017.
The decisive moment came after a corner kick, which took Arsenal 26 seconds to execute. It seemed like this was a deliberate action by Arsenal as Everton’s penalty area was initially too dense. The way they hesitated at the set-piece made Gary Neville angry: “I asked how long the ball had been in the corner and clearly. It obviously took 26 seconds to take that corner, it was a mountain of time.”

Arteta just had a valuable victory.
“You saw Mikel Arteta and the coaching staff starting to celebrate that it was a success, so they’ve definitely been working on that in training.”
Asked to justify his delaying tactics, which put Everton out of position and created space for the decisive moment, Arteta told Sky Sports: “Obviously they are very strong in the box so we need alternatives.”
“It’s a matter of making a difference in the game and the player has to know when is the best moment to do that.”
