In the summer of 2019, Atletico bought Joao Felix from Benfica for 127 million euros. He was recruited by Atletico to replace Griezmann – who then joined Barcelona for more than 120 million euros.
At Atletico, Joao Felix received the number 7 shirt. This was the number that belonged to Griezmann before the French international moved to Barcelona. When he reunited with Atletico in the summer of 2021, Grizzy received the number 8 shirt.
Due to failure to meet expectations and conflicts with coach Diego Simeone, Joao Felix was pushed to Chelsea in January 2023. Despite his efforts and impressive performances, Felix still could not make the Chelsea board buy him outright. Therefore, he will have to return to Atletico this summer.
Returning to the parent club, Joao Felix faces a gloomy future. The reason is because Simeone is trying to push Felix away. Specifically, El Cholo can let the Portuguese striker come to Tottenham as part of the contract to recruit Hojbjerg.
And yet, Atletico recently showed their determination to part ways with Felix by stripping him of his number 7 shirt. On the Twitter account, Los Rojiblancos posted a video clip confirming they gave this shirt to Griezmann in the 2023/24 season.
Personally, Simeone also does not guarantee the future for the 23-year-old striker. Similarly, Atletico president Enrique Cerezo has repeatedly hinted at the possibility of Felix leaving as soon as possible. Atlteico side is ready to sell Felix at all costs but so far, very few clubs want him.
