Erik ten Hag confirmed MU is looking for a replacement for Ronaldo in January 2023 but dodged his favorite target Cody Gakpo suddenly joined Liverpool.
MU won Nottingham Forest 3-0 of the day Premier League restarted after more than a month of hiatus for the 2022 World Cup. Although the Red Devils are still temporarily ranked 5th when they are 1 point behind Tottenham, they keep the advantage by playing less than 1 match.

Coach Erik ten Hag expressed his joy of winning the match in the context that he had to choose a squad that was not easy, in which Raphael Varane, who had just played in the World Cup final 10 days ago, also had to fight from the beginning:
“MU played a defense of four defenders who had never played together and one player who had never played in central defense (Luke Shaw).
So you can’t be displeased when the team wins with 3 goals and doesn’t concede. Raphael Varane once again shows the great personality and class he brings to MU.
I had a hard time at centre-back and he took the responsibility, playing really well. Raphael is very important to MU.”
The Captain of the Red Devils also confirmed, the team is looking for someone to replace Ronaldo in January 2023 but this is not easy because the purchase must be within the financial limit.
“MU are looking for a striker. We need to add a new striker when we are going to play one game every three days, it will be very difficult.
We are still present in the shopping market but the execution requires matching with sporting criteria as well as financial requirements. Because of MU’s progress, we need to be more cautious.”
Erik ten Hag was asked about Cody Gakpo, who is said to be his favorite target but has unexpectedly joined Liverpool, whether this will make MU more difficult to race for the Champions League: “I don’t look at the other team. I just focus on MU. I believe in my players being able to compete with those teams.”
