Forest will face the Red Devils after a 4-1 League Cup win over Blackburn Rovers. They have more reason to be confident when many of Man United’s stars are unable to play in the clash at Old Trafford.
Names such as Diogo Dalot, Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Axel Tuanzebe are all convalescing, while Lisandro Martinez may be absent after winning the 2022 World Cup with the Argentina national team. Coach Ten Hag admitted that it is too early to determine whether Martinez will be ready for the match that takes place at dawn next Wednesday (Vietnam time).
Dalot is also uncertain about his return after straining his hamstring during Portugal’s loss to Morocco in the quarter-finals. Centre-back Maguire is currently ill and needs time to recover.
“Harry is sick, and I don’t know how the situation will progress,” said Ten Hag. “We have to wait and see if he is ready for the game against Nottingham Forest.”
Varane has yet to return from the World Cup and Sancho continues to be absent while following a special training program.
