Dortmund entered the game very well despite having to march to Freiburg’s stadium. In the 11th minute, the Ruhr team opened the scoring with A powerful header from veteran Mats Hummels. Losing early, the home players rose strongly to find an equalizer.
Their efforts were rewarded in the 45+3 minute with an extremely dangerous reverse header from Lucas Höler. It was thought that the two teams would go into halftime with a draw, but suddenly Höler scored again and put Freiburg ahead in the 45+7 minute.
In the second half, Dortmund played more focused. They soon had an equalizing goal in the 60th minute. Starting from a standard midfield play, Donyell Malen rushed down and shot a dangerous shot to the far corner, not giving goalkeeper Noah Atubolu any chance to block.
With the momentum of excitement, the away team rushed to attack to earn all 3 points. In the 87th minute, taking advantage of a chaotic situation in Freiburg’s penalty area, Hummels quickly scored, putting Dortmund ahead. In extra time, veteran Marco Reus scored another goal to set the score 4-2 for Dortmund.
