Former Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea could return to football after he entered talks about joining Real Betis.
Manchester United had to make a difficult decision about David De Gea’s future at the end of last season. The Spanish goalkeeper has served 12 years for Manchester United and few people really doubt his ability to stop. But De Gea didn’t really fit the way Erik ten Hag wanted the goalkeeper to play more with his feet, so in the end the Red Devils let him go.
A move could be made as Real Betis are currently trying to recruit De Gea on a free transfer. El Desmarque in Spain reports Betis have now met De Gea to discuss a contract. They also said ‘contacts have begun’ about a deal and De Gea is ‘excited’ at the prospect of playing for the team.
Betis are looking to recruit a reserve goalkeeper, with Rui Silva injured and likely to be sold in 2024. Former Manchester City player Claudio Bravo is currently the number one choice for Betis but De Gea could be the priority choice ahead of this 40-year-old goalkeeper.
