Fulham midfielder Andreas Pereira broke down in tears after a phone call from former Flamengo team-mate David Luiz.
Brazil internationals Luiz and Pereira were both part of the Flamengo squad that suffered a painful defeat to Palmeiras in the 2021 Copa Libertadores final. That result was especially heartbreaking for former Manchester United player Pereira, who made a costly mistake to help the opponent score an important goal.

David Luiz went on to win another major title in his career.
While the midfielder moved to Fulham, Luiz stayed with Rubro-Negro to help them reach the continental final once again. This time, they won, and Pereira was moved when he received a call from his former colleague.
Luiz shared a screenshot of his video call with Pereira on Instagram, when the former MU star was in tears. He recorded: “You’re a champion bro, we love you.”
Gabigol, who scored in 2021, scored the only goal of the game to settle a tight final in Ecuador. Flamengo hasn’t lost a single game in the entire tournament, picking up 16 points from 18 in the group stage and winning at home and away in all three knockouts before the final.
