“It was a disappointing result for Thailand even if it was only a friendly match. We planned and prepared from the beginning, determined that this was a game we couldn’t lose, but it didn’t go the way we wanted,” head coach Alexandre Polking expressed disappointment after the match.
On the evening of December 14, Thailand lost to Taiwan (China) 0-1 at home with the only goal of striker Chen Jui-chieh. This is a match where coach Polking put many pillars to test the reserve team, such as goalkeeper Kampol Pathomakkakul, midfielder Chalermsak Aukkee, midfielder Weerathep Pomphan or Sanrawat Dechmitr, an older player.
This is also the occasion that Mr. Polking thanked the old general Teeratep Winothai when giving him the opportunity to play the last match in the Thai team before retiring. Unfortunately, the one-time prodigy of Thai football did not score, his teammates in the attack also proved ungainly despite playing overwhelmingly compared to the opponent.
Coach Polking said: “I want all players to play in two friendlies to see who is ready for the AFF Cup 2022. Those who do not or rarely play in the match against Myanmar (Thailand won 6-0 0) given the opportunity in this match. With the result we lost, we see a lot of work to do.”
The captain of the Thai team also praised his opponent Taiwan (China) for progress.
“Taiwan (China) plays defensively and sometimes counterattacks well. I congratulate you on this victory. After this match, I will decide on the list of 23 Thai players to attend the AFF Cup 2022, “said Mr. Polking.
The match against Taiwan (China) is the last friendly match of the Thai team before the AFF Cup 2022. They also have about a week to prepare for the opening match of Group A against Brunei on December 20.
