On the afternoon of April 28, the Cambodian Football Federation closed the list of 20 players for the U22 team to attend the SEA Games. The list has many familiar players who have experienced at SEA Games 31 and AFF Cup 2022 such as Sieng Chanthea, Lim Pisoth, Vireak Dara or Taing Bunchhai.
2 players of foreign origin, including Leng Nora and Aarun Lim, were retained after the gathering time of the Cambodia U22 team. Leng was born in 2004, a defender of Ghanaian origin, while Aarun Lim was born in 2003, a defensive midfielder of New Zealand and Chinese origin. These are the new faces that U22 Cambodia hopes to strengthen the team.
The unfortunate absence of Cambodia U22 at the 32nd SEA Games is striker Sa Ty due to not recovering from injury in time. The attack of the Angkor team will hope in the strikers Ki Rina, besides Sieng Chanthea and Lim Pisoth.
Chanthea and Pisoth are two of the players who have kicked the AFF Cup 2020, 2022 and SEA Games 31. The early recruitment of many players and many regional tournaments is a long-term preparation step of the Cambodian Football Federation in the past few years to aim. The decisive tournament is the 32nd SEA Games at home.
“This is when the most anticipated generation of Cambodian football players shines and brings pride to the country. We have the right to dream about the gold medal. If we can play well in each match, we will reap the greatest achievements,” head coach Ryu Hirose of Cambodia U22 shared at a press conference at noon on April 28.
Cambodia U22 also called coach Felix Dalmas to advise Keisuke Honda as an expert at this year’s congress. The home team will play the opening match against U22 Timor Leste at 19:00 pm on April 29.
