The Netherlands received a heavy defeat in the opening match of Group B qualifying for EURO 2024. Ronald Koeman’s teachers and students lost 0-4 to France.
The world runner-up started the match jubilantly with two goals to take the lead after 8 minutes of rolling the ball. Kylian Mbappe and Dayot Upamecano respectively scored, helping Les Bleus create a two-goal advantage early.
Sharing after the match, Koeman said:The Netherlands has no chance. We were down by two goals when the game went 8 minutes. Against an opponent like that, you have to put on a very good performance. We didn’t leave much of an impression in this match. This is not the most satisfactory squad of the Netherlands. You also understand why.”

The Netherlands lost 0-4 to France.
The Dutch team lacked many important faces before the match. Some stars withdrew due to injuries and viruses. Frenkie de Jong, Cody Gakpo, Joey Veerman, Sven Botman, Bart Verbruggen, Matthijs de Ligt are all absent for France.
“I don’t want to make excuses for this defeat. The Netherlands should have played more offensively, made fewer mistakes. We showed weakness in many aspects.”
