Former Real Madrid striker Benzema won the 2022 Ballon d’Or, beating former Barcelona striker Lionel Messi and others for his achievements that season, helping Los Blancos win their second Champions League title 14.
Messi has now revealed his thoughts on his old rival: “I think Benzema is a worthy winner. He deserves it for a great year and what he’s done throughout his career. He’s a great player and I think it’s important for him and for football that he has this recognition.”
Benzema was honored last year.
Both Benzema and Messi left Europe this summer, with the former Real star moving to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad while M10 joined MLS side Inter Miami.
The Argentine captain won the World Cup in 2022, also helped Inter Miami win the Leagues Cup this season and is expected to win his 8th Golden Ball this year. Erling Haaland is also considered a strong candidate, but the World Cup championship makes M10 surpass everyone.
