After Barca parted ways with the team’s legend – Sergio Busquets, who moved to MLS, they are still looking for a true holding midfielder. Oriol Romeu is considered by experts to be not qualified enough to help this club win the championship.
According to journalist Adrián Sánchez of Más Que Pelotas, Barca is closely monitoring Liverpool’s Thiago Alcântara and will look for opportunities to sign a contract with him in January.
Thiago is a student of Pep Guardiola and a product of La Masia. He understands the club well and of course fits perfectly with the playing style of the Nou Camp team.
However, it is unlikely that Thiago is the right choice for Barca right now. Thiago is 32 years old and has a fairly extensive injury history. He has not yet played for Liverpool this season because of a long-term hip injury.
Jorginho is another potential face for Barca’s midfield. This player has a fairly cheap transfer fee and fits Xavi’s “marketing” criteria at the moment.
