It took Pablo Maffeo a long time to assert himself. A former student of RCD Espanyol and Manchester City, the Spanish player went through many loan spells before establishing a foothold.
In the 2021/22 season, Maffeo joined Mallorca on loan and officially became a member of this club last year. The 26-year-old star has made leaps in his career since then.
Maffeo is gradually asserting himself in La Liga.
Currently, Maffeo is on the list of the best defenders in La Liga. Therefore, he has entered the sights of champion Barcelona.
According to Fichajes, the Catalan team is satisfied with the performance from Joao Cancelo, but they are not sure about the possibility of buying the Portuguese star permanently due to the financial situation.
Manchester City wanted to collect 30 million euros for this deal and almost refused to negotiate. Therefore, in case there is not enough money, Barca will turn to recruiting Maffeo.
Everything will likely be clarified in the 2024 summer transfer window.
