With Real Madrid losing to Villarreal, a win against Girona will help Barcelona widen the gap to 15 points.
A great save could be found by the visitors 2 minutes into the game as Viktor Tsygankov couldn’t find the volley to hit the goal. However, the most formidable ball belongs to Barca. In the first half, the combination between Santiago Bueno and Paulo Gazzaniga made the ball roll towards the goal, but Gazzaniga promptly retreated to send the ball wide.
The away team then controlled the game for a while, rotating and controlling the ball well but could not have a public goal to break the deadlock.
The second half started in a similar fashion as both teams had chances in the first ten minutes. Lewandowski, Fati and Eric Garcia were the Blaugrana players who almost scored, but Girona had the best chances.
A pass penetrated the defense to help Taty Castellanos test Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, but the player missed. 78 minutes, Lewandowski had a good opportunity but could not take advantage.
Barcelona could not seem to penetrate the Girona defence, and a sense of panic began to set in. Draw 0-0 at Nou Campteachers and students Xavi Hernandez lost the opportunity to guard Real 15 points, but they do not need to feel too disappointed.
The Blaugrana has widened the gap of 13 points with Real, thereby getting close to being crowned in La Liga.
