Atletico Madrid suffered a shocking 1-2 defeat to La Liga newcomers Las Palmas at Gran Canaria Stadium early on Saturday morning. Diego Simeone’s side went into the match on a streak of six consecutive wins in this year’s competition. But the progress of the away team had to stop before the confidence of the army led by Garcia Pimienta.
After a scoreless first half, the deadlock was finally broken in the 51st minute of the match, when Los Amarillos captain Kirian RodrÃguez fired a long-range shot past Jan Oblak. 20-year-old player Alberto Moleiro had his first assist for the team. However, it must be mentioned that a smart move from loaned Manchester City player Maximo Perrone, 20, created space for his teammates.

Atletico unexpectedly suffered defeat against Las Palmas.
The home team doubled their advantage in the 75th minute after midfielder Javier Munoz caught Mario Hermoso’s sloppy pass to launch a counterattack. Former Barcelona and Sevilla striker Munir passed to teammate Benito Ramirez del Toro who ran up and scored.
Atletico made Las Palmas tense in the final minutes thanks to Alvaro Morata’s goal in the 83rd minute. But that was only a consolation for the 200/21 La Liga champion. The final score is 2-1 for the home team.
This result leaves them stagnant in third place after 11 matches, three points behind leaders Real Madrid and Girona.
