Arsenal’s Marquinhos’ loan contract to Nantes ended earlier this month after just half a year. That was a big blow to the Brazilian player’s career. Since arriving in Europe, things haven’t gone as planned for the 20-year-old.
Injuries and poor form have hindered his chances of making an impact at all clubs. Marquinhos came to Arsenal for 3 million pounds in the 2022 summer transfer window but failed to impress coach Mikel Arteta. He played six times for the Gunners’ first team, scoring a goal and an assist on his debut, in a Europa League win over FC Zurich.
Because it was outside of Arteta’s plans, Arsenal considered letting Marquinhos continue to “study abroad”. The Sun shares, Brazilian sides Corinthians and Fluminense are both interested in Marquinhos. In particular, Fluminense was revealed to be leading in the loan race.
Brazil’s transfer window is closed until March, which means the Samba sides are in no rush to complete the deal. Marquinhos is ready to return to his homeland and Fluminense coach Fernando Diniz is a key figure in convincing the Arsenal star.
