Arsene Wenger admitted he had intended to sign Martin Odegaard in the past, but that plan ended up falling apart. At the moment, Wenger insists Odegaard is a very talented player, and he even compared the midfielder to Cesc Fabregas.
Talking to TV2, the former Arsenal captain shared (quoted by Metro):
“It was difficult when I couldn’t sign Odegaard. When Odegaard was 15, I talked to him. I actually told Odegaard about it after the Boxing Day match.”

Wenger appreciates Odegaard.
“I really wanted to sign Odegaard. Fortunately, he’s here now. Odegaard really looks like a young Cesc Fabregas. I think Odegaard has developed into a complete player.”
“Odegaard is a very calm player and has good analysis of the game. He has his feet firmly on the ground.”
“I’m extremely impressed. Odegaard is really a simple and nice guy. The way Odegaard analyzes the game, he did it at the age of 15. That’s sharp!”
“I’m really impressed. Odegaard makes quick decisions and always has the optimal choice. I like Odegaard and the way he makes football so easy.”
