AFA’s director of international recruitment, Juan Martin Tassi, told Talk Sport: “We have a positive dialogue with Garnacho and his family. Garnacho is delighted to be called up to the Argentina team. Garnacho’s case is the product of the effort, the closeness we propose every day, that makes he leans towards Argentina. All the companionship is needed and they feel it.”
The AFA’s move comes after it was reported that Spain were planning to convince the 18-year-old to wear “La Roja” shirt. The young star of MU has not made an official debut at the international level. Up to this point, Garnacho, whose mother is an Argentinian, played for both Spain U18 and Argentina U20 when he was young.
On March 3, coach Lionel Scaloni announced the list of players summoned to Argentina this time. Among them, young talent Garnacho is the name that attracts attention. However, a serious injury made Garnacho decide to withdraw from the Argentina team and could not attend two friendlies in March.
