Arsenal closed 2023 with a 1-2 loss to Fulham. The unsatisfactory result pushed the Gunners to 4th place in the rankings, two points behind Liverpool’s top spot, and played one more match.
Mikel Arteta’s team got off to a smooth start with Bukayo Saka’s opening goal in the 5th minute. The joy of Arsenal fans did not last too long. In the 29th minute, striker Raul Jimenez scored a classy finish, equalizing 1-1 for Fulham.
Entering the second half, Fulham took advantage of the opportunity successfully when Bobby De Cordova-Reid scored a goal against David Raya, sealing a 2-1 victory for Fulham. Commenting on Sky Sports after the match, expert Oliver Yew commented:
“Brilliant scenes appeared at Craven Cottage Stadium as the home team celebrated their victory alongside their supporting fans. Disappointment was evident on the faces of the players and coach Mikel Arteta.”
“Consecutive defeats against West Ham and Fulham became A strong blow to Arsenal’s championship ambitions. Fulham closed the year with a victory. Meanwhile, Arsenal hopes to change its fortunes in early 2024.”
