Borussia Dortmund ended a series of two consecutive defeats in the Bundesliga by coming back to win against Borussia Monchengladbach with a score of 4-2 at Signal Iduna Park.
The first half of the match was exciting when the away team suddenly took a 2-0 lead after goals from Rocco Reitz and Manu Kone in just the first 30 minutes of the match. However, the home team quickly recovered and came back to end the first half with a score of 3-2 after Marcel Sabitzer, Niclas Fullkrug and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens scored for Dortmund.
In the second half, Die Schwarzgelben played better and striker Donyell Malen scored the match-winning goal after a counterattack when the Gladbach goalkeeper went up to the opponent’s area to take a corner kick. This victory helps Dortmund return to the top 4 and brings great momentum before facing AC Milan in the Champions League in midweek.
Dortmund played better
In addition to the chaos in the first 30 minutes of this match, Dortmund showed a lot of improvement after a disastrous performance against VfB Stuttgart just before the international break.
At the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half, coach Edin Terzic’s players completely controlled the match to win the final victory. However, this result does not reassure fans. If facing stronger opponents, Dortmund probably could not have come back so easily.
Monchengladbach’s imbalance between attack and defense
For most of the first half, Gladbach was the better team and easily had a 2-goal lead, but defensive weaknesses caused them to lose points, although the return of defender Ko Itakura from injury helped the team. Gladbach’s defense played more solidly.
However, this is not just a player problem, during his time in charge of Bayern Leverkusen, Gerardo Seoane was known as a coach who did not prioritize defense and this was seen during his time at Gladbach.
Jamie Bynoe-Gittens deserves more playing time
The performance of 19-year-old Jamie Bynoe-Gittens has proven that he is Dortmund’s best winger. When both Karim Adeyemi and Malen played inconsistently this season, perhaps coach Terzic should let the young English midfielder play more.
Bynoe-Gittens had 1 goal and 1 assist in this match, making an important contribution to the team’s comeback result. In particular, this is not the first time the 19-year-old midfielder has shined as at several points in Dortmund’s title race last season, he also proved himself to be an effective choice.
